Today the world said good-bye to one of my creative heroes. I've spent the day listening to Bowie music and thinking about what makes a creative hero. David Bowie had the courage to do and be exactly what he wanted to do and be. He wasn't afraid to be Davey Jones, Ziggy Stardust, Halloween Jack, The Thin White Duke, or Major Tom. He's been the Man Who Fell to Earth, The Goblin King, and The Elephant Man. I've heard the word chameleon many times in reference to Bowie. Maybe, but I don't think so. Chameleons change to blend into the environment. David Bowie changed and shook the cultural environment around him. Originally trained as a mime and saxophone player David Bowie loved a show. He pushed boundaries in music, costume and persona. He is a creative hero because he dared... to be different, to be shocking, to follow his own special muse.
