Happiness...is not another place but this place, not for another hour but this hour.
I recently read the phrase "be where your feet are" on the tinybuddha website.
Most of us have heard how important it is to be present, to be in the now. The idea was wildly popular several years ago as evidenced by the astronomical sales of Eckhardt Tolle's The Power of Now. But this is not a new idea, Walt Whitman talked about it over a hundred years ago.
We must stop waiting for the right place and time to be happy. This is it. Here is the place. Now is the time.
Right at this very moment, I am completely content. I am in a creative zone, working on my blog. I'm enjoying the pleasant breeze blowing through the open door. I am where my feet are. My mind is not wandering back to yesterday or forward into tomorrow. I am present. I am where my feet are.
It's important to be where your feet are... Right here, right now. In our world of over-connectivity, media saturation, and distractions this can be difficult. I invite you to be where your feet are today. Really see the sights, hear the sounds. If you are with another person, disconnect from your devices and be there with that person. If you are working on a creative project, disconnect from your thinking and be present with the process.
I double dog dare you to be where your feet are!
