I am creative... I don't draw, per se. To challenge myself and bring the creative simmer to a rapid boil, I signed up for a drawing class with one of my favorite people on the planet, Susan Shie. Our first assignment? Draw your favorite restaurant. It was due last night :-)
Because I can still be a perfectionist, some days more than others, I tried to change the assignment. I told myself, "I'm more of an expressive artist, really." How can I make my style and my comfort zone fit into this assignment? It took me several days (seven to be exact) and a total studio rearrangement to decide how I could "cheat." I know! I'll draw what nourishes me! That's kind of like my favorite restaurant!
I went right to my comfort zone. I'll outline some OMs and Hamsas to represent yoga and meditation! That nourishes me. Oh, and I can't do it in the assigned sketchbook, open and on both pages, because it will be too, wet! Nope... That's really cheating, not drawing at all.
I know! Some circles in a sacred geometry form to represent my family! Not my family tree, my family forest! Nope... Still cheating, not drawing. As Susan so eloquently puts it, "WAH!"
So, I'm showing you my DRAWING of the Blue Bonnet Cafe in Denver, my favorite restaurant. The perspective is off, and it's pretty naive, but there it is. Oh, and that is a giant beef chimi in the patio! It's not going to win any prizes, but I did beat resistance!
