Here is yesterday's calendar page. I love my colorful calendar on iCal. It syncs with all my devices and I have my schedule at my fingertips at all times. Problem is, I forget to look at it.
Why talk about calendars and discipline on a blog for creativites? Because we, no, I need it.
I saw a meme that said something like, "I love freedom until I get overwhelmed, then I love a routine until I get bored, then I love freedom..." This describes me perfectly. However, I am committing to the routine thing. I can find other ways to keep myself interested, I don't need overwhelm.
My friend Larry at Granny Scott's Pie Shop told me that it's the things we don't do that make us exhausted. I had to think about that a bit. You know? He's right! No list, no schedule, no serenity. Believe me, I've tried to live my version of a bohemian lifestyle and it's a great idea but bad for my self-worth and goals.
I don't spend my unscheduled days dreamily painting or writing, okay sometimes reading, but mostly wasting time. Hate to admit it, but it's true. I waste a lot of time "catching up" with Facebook, then watching the BuzzFeed video someone posted, then another video on BuzzFeed that looks interesting, then the quiz about which fruit I am (I'm a banana, in case you're interested)... I just goes on and on.
I am undisciplined by nature. But, I am MUCH happier with a little self-discipline. My knees don't hurt when I get up and go to yoga. I like myself when I don't have ice cream for lunch. Seems simple, but for me it isn't. I have to be deliberate about my choice.
Let me know if I can help to gently move you in the direction of comfortable self discipline!
